Dead Man’s Bones are working hard to top themselves, and they accomplish this with their latest video “Dead Hearts”. Featuring Arthur Ganson’s “Machine with Wishbone”, we get fine art combined with an old West Ennio Morricone feel. The song is less catchy and more haunting than their other two singles, but the slow melancholy works in their (and Ganson’s) favor.
Normally Ganson’s work is filmed against a plain background, where the focus is purely on the movement of the piece and the mechanics behind it. There is beauty in the simplicity of these movements, and Dead Man’s Bones have been able to capture and amplify that by placing Wishbone in a setting. As you watch, the machine takes on a human-like quality and becomes a part of the cinematic experience. The result is not just a music video, but a short film.
Make sure to see Dead Man’s Bones live on Friday October 16th at the sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church.
